The Surprising Truth Behind Hair Moisture

So many “truths” about haircare make no sense. How come hair is not more studied scientifically?

Moisturizing the hair: Is it really possible?

So much of what we believe when it comes to haircare (and often black haircare) makes no sense at all. Moisturizing the hair is a common practice, but have you ever stopped to think about it? Hair is dead. You can’t moisturize something that is dead. You can condition it and apply a layer of conditioner or oil on top of it to make it appear smoother and silkier, but it’s not like it’s a plant? It’s dead. The best thing for the hair is probably sebum, which is essentially an oil.

Split ends: Do they really travel up?

Another common belief in the haircare world is that split ends travel up the hair shaft. This one also makes no sense to many. People who never trim their hair would have hair that is entirely split ends if this were true. The reality is that split ends occur due to damage to the hair shaft, and they do not magically travel up. Regular trims can help prevent split ends from worsening, but they don't actually move up the hair.

It's important to question these common beliefs and myths in the world of haircare. By understanding the science behind hair and how it functions, we can make more informed decisions about how to care for our hair.
